On April 9, Prof. Dr. Juergen Kretschmann, the president of our university, went to Beijing to have close exchanges and in-depth talks with the UNESCO International Center for Engineering Education (ICEE), to lay a good foundation for future cooperation.

During the talks, Prof. Dr. Kretschmann gave ICEE a detailed overview of the basics of Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (abbr. BiUH), especially highlighting the university’s advantages and characteristics in the “work-integrated” teaching model. The “work-integrated” teaching model aims to cultivate students’ ability and literacy to solve practical problems and to lay a solid foundation for their future career. The ICEE delegation expressed strong interest in this teaching model and believed that this innovative teaching method would bring new enlightenment to the global engineering education field.

As part of UNESCO, ICEE’s mission is to build a global engineering education community based on equality, inclusiveness, development and win-win solutions. The center is committed to supporting the sustainable development of the economy and society and to promoting the common civilization and progress of mankind. Key topics of focus include the quality and equity of global engineering education, especially the promotion of engineering education in developing countries. ICEE emphasizes innovation-driven and industry-academia cooperation, and it is building the center into a think-tank-type research and consulting center, a high-level talent training base and an international exchange platform.

The talks not only deepened the mutual understanding between the two parties, but also laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. We look forward to both parties achieving more positive results in future cooperation and jointly promoting the prosperity and progress of engineering education, worldwide.
