On August 11, 2023, China Science and Technology Industry Development Global Forum, hosted by the China Industry-Academy-Research Cooperation Promotion Association, China Technology Market Association, Hainan Science and Technology Association, and China Science and Technology Industry Magazine, was opened in Haikou, Hainan. The theme of this forum was “A focus on the major trends of global science and technology development & building a global science and technology innovation community.” At the forum, the “Thousands of Schools and Millions of Enterprises” collaborative innovation platform was officially launched.
Professor Michael Stricker (Chinese name: Xu Jiaming), dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) from Germany and chairman of the board of Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (BiUH), attended the forum. During the event, Professor Xu, as one of the representatives of the universities, participated in the roundtable discussion of this forum on stage, and introduced BiUH.
BiUH is the first independent university in China established by an overseas higher education institution in the context of the Hainan Free Trade Port, and it is also the first university established independently by a German public university in China. BiUH will officially open in September this year.
Professor Michael Stricker said，the Practice-embedded Talent Training model advocated by Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) from Germany, is a learning style that combines theory and practice, allowing students to spend 50% of their time on studying at the university and 50% of their time on working in companies and on participating in practices.
Students apply the theoretical knowledge they learn at university in their work, and then feedback the experience they gain at work into their studies at university. In this repeated cycle, students’ internships in cooperative enterprises completely match the theoretical knowledge they have learnt, so that teaching and practice are closely combined and integrated. Most of the companies that cooperate with HSBI Germany are large and medium-sized enterprises, and the university fully supports the career development of students and young scientists.
Professor Michael Stricker concluded by explaining that Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (BiUH) has been working hard to find enterprises sharing the same goals as the University, to jointly implement the talent training plan by University-enterprise cooperation, so that the “Work-integrated” training model can be perfectly rooted in the local area.
