On the afternoon of August 23, the opening ceremony for the 2024 freshmen of our university, Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (abbr. BiUH), was grandly held in the Lingshui Li’an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone.
Leaders and guests attending the ceremony included:
Li Hu, Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee, Party Secretary and Director of the Provincial Department of Education,
Tao Tao, Member of the Standing Committee of Danzhou Municipal Party Committee, Minister of the Propaganda Department and Member of the Working Committee of Yangpu Economic Development Zone,
Zou Wentao, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Lingshui Li’an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone Administration and Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Pilot Zone Development Company,
Liu Ying, Director of the Administrative Office of the Hainan Provincial Department of Education,
Yang Yongfei, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Danzhou Municipal Education Bureau,
Guan Jian, Member of the Party Committee of the Danzhou Municipal Education Bureau and Chief Education Inspector of the Municipal Government,
Prof. Dr. Juergen Kretschmann, President of our university, Prof. Guan Naijia, our Executive President, and Zeng Weilu, a trustee of our university.
Representatives from cooperative enterprises, various departments of the Pilot Zone, and sister colleges and universities, all the faculty and staff of BiUH, and some parents of new students also gathered to witness this important moment.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Li Hu, Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee, Party Secretary and Director of the Provincial Department of Education, delivered a speech on stage. Mr. Li said that the opening ceremony for the 2024 freshmen is not only an important symbol of BiUH ‘s pioneering and keeping the right and innovative efforts in its history, but also a major event in the construction and the acceleration of the opening-up of education in Hainan pacesetting island for international-oriented education. At the same time, Mr. Li also placed high expectations on all the freshmen, hoping that they aspire for the high and grand while planting the feet firmly on the ground, innovate actively and adapt to challenges, respect morality and cultivate themselves, and truly become virtuous and talented national pillars.
Then, Tao Tao, member of the Standing Committee of the Danzhou Municipal Party Committee, Minister of the Propaganda Department, and member of the Working Committee of Yangpu Economic Development Zone, took the stage to make a speech. Mr. Tao said that as a model of educational cooperation between China and Germany, the establishment of BiUH has created a precedent for overseas universities to independently run schools in China, which is a great milestone.
Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Juergen Kretschmann, President of our university, and Professor Guan Naijia, Executive president, took the stage to deliver their speeches.
Prof. Dr. Kretschmann expressed his sincere gratitude to the freshmen and their parents for choosing BiUH, emphasized the importance of engineering, electronic information and computer science in creating a better future, and looked forward to freshmen’s achieving fruitful results in their upcoming university journey.
Prof. Guan pointed out that BiUH has established strategic partnerships with well-known enterprises such as China Mobile, China Unicom, and Crazy Sports, and is committed to cultivating outstanding designers, engineers, and senior managers with practical skills and innovative thinking. BiUH will continue to help students become the backbone and leaders in their respective fields and make positive contributions to our country and even the world in the future.
Directly after, Professor Dr. Schramm-Wölk, President of Hochschule Bielefeld – University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI) from Germany, expressed a warm welcome to the freshmen and their parents through a video. He expressed his earnest hope that the freshmen would study hard and innovate bravely, and looked forward to their working together with all teachers and students to create a better future.
After that, He Yi, a representative of outstanding students of class 2023, and Deng Zifeng and Wu Miao, representatives of freshmen of class 2024, took the stage one after another to speak. They all said that they were very honored to be able to study at BiUH, and promised to be down-to-earth, study hard, break through limits, pursue excellence, and meet the challenges of the future with confidence.
Finally, Mr. Chen, a representative of the parents of the freshmen of Class 2024, came to the stage to give a speech. Mr. Chen expressed his recognition and expectation for the “work-integrated” teaching model of BiUH, and he hoped that the freshmen would achieve a gorgeous transformation from the brave to the strong on this fertile land.
On that evening, BiUH also held a freshman carnival for the new students. Accompanied by interesting interactive games, the light and pleasant music, , created a warm and free atmosphere with singing and laughing. During the event, BiUHers gathered together, exchanged ideas freely, enhanced friendship, and wrote a brand new chapter for the upcoming university life. The new journey of life has set sail, and we believe that the future journey will be full of expectations and hopes!
