Welcome to Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences at the campus in Lingshui Li’an.

Dear students of the 2nd year of BiUH, dear colleagu es, honoured guests,

It is a great pleasure and honour for me to welcome you to BiUH on behalf of my colleagues, staff and students at HSBI.

Many thanks to the management of BiUH, who have once again made it possible for me to take part in this ceremonial act this year – albeit from a distance via video.

You, dear students, are already the second cohort of our university in Hainan and are now at the beginning of an exciting and promising journey.

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations for taking this significant step in your academic and professional career.

The start of a new academic year with new faces and in a new environment is always a special moment- full of expectations, hopes and also a bit of nervousness.

You will now become part of a growing and dynamic community- part of the BiUH family, distinguished by its international character, diversity, and excellence.

By choosing to study at BiUH, you have not only selected a location to study where others like to go on holiday, but have also opted for an innovative study model.

The work-integrated study program at a university of applied sciences is already a success story in Germany.

It combines excellent academic training with immediate practical application in companies.

During your studies, you will gain valuable practical experience that complements your theoretical education.

This combination will better prepare you for the demands of the job market, as you will get to know real working environments and develop important skills such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Your time at BiUH will provide you with the tools and knowledge, you need to succeed in a globalized and ever-changing world.

Here at BiUH, you are encouraged to develop and showcase your skills and your talents.

However, studying at BiUH goes far beyond mere academics.

It is about building relationships, making friends and creating networks that will be invaluable to you in your personal and professional development.

Take advantage of the many opportunities offered to you here– whether through participation in student initiatives, projects, cultural exchanges or other extracurricular activities.

I would also like to encourage you to be curious and think outside the box.

The world is constantly changing. Be ready to explore new perspectives, develop creative solutions and tackle the challenges of the future.

Here you have the chance to think and dare to do new things.

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes are part of the learning process.

Build networks. Your fellow students, lecturers, professors and all BiUH staff are a great resource.

Build relationships, exchange ideas and support each other.

You will be amazed at how much you can learn from each other.

And don’t forget that your time at university is also about having fun.

Make new friends, discover new hobbies and consciously enjoy this special period of your life- even sometimes  without your mobile phone and laptop.

The BiUH is still a young university.

Starting today, you have the opportunity to shape this university with new and innovative ideas and to help to make it future-proof.

The professors and lecturers at BiUH will support you on this journey.

Do not hesitate to ask questions, seek help and actively participate at all the times.

Your commitment and motivation are the keys to both your success and to the success of the BiUH.

I myself am planning to come to Hainan with my team in November.

I am looking forward to meeting you all in person and engaging in a productive, results-orientated exchange with you.

Finally, I would like to wish you all great success, joy and exciting experiences during your studies at BiUH.

May you be inspired to pursue your dreams and goals with renewed vigour and passion.

You are the future – and we are proud to accompany you on this journey.

Thank you very much.
