To implement the ” work-integrated ” teaching program and to enhance students’ understandings of corporate values, social responsibility and job roles, BiUH’s department of University-Enterprise Cooperation invited Yun Qing, General Manager of Hainan Mobile’s Information System Department, to deliver a lecture titled ‘The Power of IT in Enterprises’ at BiUH’s Enterprise Classroom on the afternoon of October 10th.
Addressing the freshmen, Yun Qing gave a speech that combined the insights from a popular reality show and his personal experience of studying and working in Germany. The scintillating opening instantly aroused the students’ interest in entrepreneurship and corporate management. Yun Qing then introduced entrepreneurship by citing the example of the famous management expert Drucker, emphasizing the importance of innovation, and stressing the need to see things from others’ perspectives in the workplace.
In addition to sharing valuable work experience, Yun Qing also addressed each of the students’ questions one by one.
Q1: How to deal with the wave of unemployment and layoffs as well as the birth of new jobs brought about by the rapid development of the times?
A:We must maintain the good habit of lifelong learning, constantly enriching our own abilities to enhance our self-worth, and adapt to the development of the times. Meanwhile, we must be brave enough to seize opportunities and learn to adopt different perspectives so as to break through the existing cognition.
Q2: How do you view the beneficial contributions of university-enterprise cooperation and the “work-integrated” talent training model to the development of individual students and the society?
A: For students, they can gain practical work experience and improve their professional ability through internships and practical training in enterprises. University-enterprise cooperation often provides students with employment opportunities. Through the contact with enterprises, students can have a clearer understanding of industry dynamics and personal development direction, and make informed career choices. Especially in the “work-integrated” talent training model, the earlier and deeper students’ understanding and experience of enterprises are, the more conducive it is to gather resources to improve their own required capabilities.
For enterprises, through cooperation with universities, enterprises can directly participate in the talent training process and cultivate talents that meet their needs; participating in school-enterprise cooperation is also a manifestation of enterprises fulfilling their social responsibilities.
From the perspective of the whole society, school-enterprise cooperation can boost the close integration of education and industry, and promote the healthy development of social economy. At the same time, it solves the problem of disconnection between the cultivation of talents and the use of talents, and saves the society’s ineffective cost of social investment.
Afterwards, Yun Qing discussed the upcoming ‘work-integrated’ internship for sophomores, explaining the job roles and talent alignment strategies in real corporate settings.
Finally, Yun Qing encouraged all the sophomores: “During the internship, your performance for the company is not the most important factor. What truly matters is applying the knowledge learned from textbooks into real-world situations, using practical experience to enhance classroom learning, and finding a role that suits you. Keep learning and continuously improving, until you become a valuable asset to both the company and the society.”
