1.University Introduction
Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (BiUH) is a full-time institution of higher learning with independent legal status, recognized by the Chinese government and authorized confer higher education degrees. Established by Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in Germany (HSBI), it enjoys the support of the Hainan government as well as the Danzhou Municipal government. This institution marks the first independent educational project of a foreign university in China and is also the first independent venture in China by a German public university.
Since its inception, Hainan BiUH has adhered to the principles of introducing HSBI’s innovative talent cultivation models and academic structures, exploring novel pathways for training engineering professionals. 3.Application Requirements
(1)Non-Chinese citizens holding valid foreign passports and applicants holding identity certificates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions of China. Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years old, possess good physical and mental health, and exhibit good conduct. They must comply with China’s entry-exit regulations, adhere to Chinese laws and the regulations of Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, and respect Chinese culture and customs.
(2)Applicants must possess educational qualifications equivalent to high school graduation in China.
(3)Language requirements: As all courses are taught in English, applicants whose native language is not English must achieve an IELTS total score of 6.0 or higher (with no less than 5.5 in any component); or a TOEFL score of 78 or higher.
Applicants whose native language is English, or who have studied in English for at least two years at the high school level, may submit alternative documentation instead of English test scores.
4.Application Deadline
For candidates seeking admission in September 2025, the application process consists of two rounds:
The first round begins on December 1, 2024, and concludes at 24:00 on January 20, 2025 (Beijing time, UTC +8).
The second round begins on February 1, 2025, and concludes at 24:00 on April 30, 2025 (Beijing time, UTC +8).
Applicants may apply during either round but are permitted to submit only one application.
The admission date for September of the current year will be specified in the ‘Admission Notice’.
5.Application Method
Applicants should visit the Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences admissions website (sa.hainan-biuh.edu.cn) during the specified periods to download relevant application materials, upload the scanned copies of required application materials through email and pay the application fee.
Applications must be sent to the student admissions office at student-admission@hainan-biuh.edu.cn prior to the deadline. Applications submitted without the accompanying bank transfer confirmation for the application fee will be considered incomplete, and the review process will not commence
Application Document List and Format Specifications:
- A. All application documents must be submitted in PDF format.
- B. All documents should be complied into a ZIP file. The naming convention for the compressed file should be: Name- Major 2025.
- C. The email subject line must include: “Name-Major-BiUH international student application 2025”.
(1) Application Materials
- A. A personal statement (approximately 500 words), detailing your educational background, reasons for applying, and personal strengths.
- A scanned copy ofthe homepage of a valid ordinary passport (valid for more than one year); or the permanent resident identity card for applicants from Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan.
- An original and notarized copy of the high school graduation certificate. If currently enrolled in high school, submit an expected graduation certificate from your school. Upon receiving a conditional admission notice, you must provide the original or notarized copy of your graduation certificate. For documents not in Chinese or English,a notarized Chinese or English translation must also be provided.
- An original and notarized copy of the transcript of your high school transcript. For transcripts not in Chinese or English,a notarized Chinese or English translation must also be provided.
- Two recommendation letters, at least one of which should be provided by a teacher at your current high school.Recommendations must be signed and include contact details.
- Language proficiency certificate: Provide TOEFL or IELTS score report.
- Download and complete the “Physical Examination Record for Foreigners” (original copy retained by the applicant). This form,printed by the Chinese health quarantine department, must be completed in English. Applicants should strictly conduct examinations according to the items required in the “Physical Examination Record for Foreigners”. The “Physical Examination Record for Foreigners” without personal photos attached or without a perforated seal on the photo, and without the signature and seal of a doctor and a hospital is invalid. The validity period of the examination results is 6 months (see the end of the enrollment brochure for the form template).
- Certificate of No Criminal Record: Submit a certificate issued by the local police department, valid within six months of application.
- Proof of funds, with a deposit of not less than 150,000 RMB (or equivalent in foreign currency).
- International students who are already studying in China and apply to study at our school need to provide a valid visa or residence permit for study issued by other schools and provide the “Certificate of Completion of Study” or “Transfer Certificate” issued by the above-mentioned schools; applicants who are already working need to submit a work certificate.
K.(1) If the applicant has foreign nationality at birth but both or one of the parents is a Chinese citizen, or if the applicant was originally a Chinese citizen and has obtained foreign nationality for 4 years (inclusive) or more, he/she must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate document for 4 years (inclusive) or more, and there must be a record of actually living in a foreign country for 2 years or more within the last 4 years (as of April 30 of the admission year) (actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year can be calculated as one year, subject to entry and exit stamps).
(2) Applicants from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who apply to enter our school as international students after immigrating and obtaining foreign nationality should meet the requirements of item (1) in item K.
(2)Application Instructions
Applicants should ensure the authenticity and accuracy of the application information and application materials provided. Otherwise, once discovered, the admission qualification will be cancelled.
Please use a scanner to color scan the relevant documents and upload them. Files taken by mobile phones or cameras are not accepted.
All certificates uploaded must be originals or notarized copies in Chinese or English. For documents in other languages, the original file and the notarized English or Chinese translation must be uploaded at the same time.
If the uploaded application materials are incomplete, it will delay the processing time of your application.
六Review and Admission
Hainan BiUH reviews the application materials submitted by applicants and organizes online English interviews as appropriate. The school admits applicants based on their comprehensive qualities and issues electronic “Admission Notices” and “Visa Application Forms for Foreign Students Coming to China” to admitted applicants in batches (see the end of the enrollment brochure).
Applicants who obtain the “conditional admission notice” based on the expected graduation certificate of high school must submit the high school graduation diploma and complete transcripts and other supplementary materials within the time specified by the school to obtain the final “Admission Notice”. Otherwise, the admission qualification will be cancelled.
7.Registration
Admitted students must present their valid ordinary passport or the permanent resident identity card from Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan, the “Admission Notice”, the “Visa Application Form for Foreign Students Coming to China”, and the “Physical Examination Record for Foreigners” to the Chinese embassy or consulates abroad to apply for a study visa. Upon receiving the study visa, students should complete registration according to the timeline specified in the “Admission Notice.”
(8)Fee Standards (in RMB)
(1) Application fee: 400 RMB. The application fee must be submitted with the application materials and is non-refundable regardless of admission status.
(2) Tuition Fee:
100,000 RMB per academic year (one hundred thousand yuan per academic year)
(3) Accommodation Fee for International Student Apartments on Campus
Double room: 2,400 RMB per person per year; single room: 4,800 RMB per person per year. Accommodation fees during winter and summer vacations will be calculated based on the number of days. Utility costs are the responsibility of the students.
(4) Textbook Fees: Charged based on textbooks purchased.
(5) Insurance Fee: 800 RMB per year (international students are required to obtain medical insurance upon arrival in China).
(6) Meal Cost on Campus: Approximately 1,500 RMB per month (for reference only).
(7) Payment method

For first-time remittances, the school will provide a copy of the school license, account opening license, and legal representative ID card, all of which are stamped with the official seal and sent to Bank of China Hainan Branch for filing)
- Students should remit funds according to the following bank information provided by the school.
- International students should provide their admission notice, passport and visa page. Please indicate your name and passport number with your remittance. Retain the remittance slip for future reference.
