With Su Dongpo’s caligraphic charecters of Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (BiUH) now engraved on the main gate of its permanent Yangpu campus, the first phase of construction is entering its final stage.

According to the Danzhou Municipal Education Bureau and the project construction team, all main buildings and interior finishing work have been completed. Landscaping and outdoor work are expected to be finalized by the end of May.

As the first independently established overseas university in the Hainan Free Trade Port, BiUH is scheduled to officially move into the Yangpu campus in the autumn of 2025. The new facilities will offer students a comprehensive academic infrastructure and an international learning environment.

“We are attracting more and more outstanding talent to join BiUH. The future looks promising,” said President Jari Grosse-Ruyken.

Phase I of the BiUH campus project involves a total investment of approximately 1.04 billion yuan, with a planned land area of 179,800 square meters and a total construction area of around 107,400 square meters. The Phase I is designed to accommodate up to 2,500 students.

Key facilities in Phase I include a welcome center, public teaching buildings, laboratory and training facilities, a student center, dormitories, faculty apartments, and sports fields. Supporting infrastructure such as campus roads, plazas, green spaces, and lighting systems are also part of this phase.

The permanent campus of BiUH will be developed in two phases. Upon the completion of the first phase in 2025, it will become a green “university within a city,” blending the best elements of education and urban life.
