Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (BiUH) kicked off its new student registration week on Saturday. Colorful flags were flying across the campus, and welcoming banners filled the air with enthusiasm. On this day, first-year students, filled with dreams and expectations, entered the campus to officially begin their studies.

“Entering the campus felt like stepping into a tropical garden. I absolutely love this brand-new campus,” said Guan Shui, a first-year student from Sichuan. Having just completed his registration, he expressed his excitement about experiencing the authentic German “practice-integrated” education model at BiUH. “The opportunity to learn with real-world problems and apply what I learn in a future business setting is what excites me the most,” Guan Shui explained. This, along with the university’s German academic rigor and the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port, drew him to study here. “The learning environment here is completely new, and I believe it will help me gain knowledge and find my own space,” he added.

The registration process was smooth and well-organized. The university had meticulously planned in advance, providing one-stop services for new students and their parents. At Baimajing station, student volunteers greeted the newcomers and their families. At the registration site, first-year students were given exquisite gifts to wish them success as they embarked on their academic journey.

Jin Ye, a first-year student majoring in Industrial Engineering(IE), mentioned that this was his first time in Hainan and that he loved the unique tropical climate. “The new campus and the university’s openness are what attracted me here,” Jin said. He plans to focus on language and IE-related courses in university, with the goal of exchanging to the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld in Germany and earning both Chinese and German degrees.

The university has prepared a series of exciting campus activities for the new students, including teacher-student sharing sessions, fun physical training, and more, to help them quickly adapt to university life and integrate into the campus community. The new semester officially begins on September 1, marking the start of the students’ academic journey.

BiUH is an international applied university with independent legal status, approved by China’s Ministry of Education. Founded in 2023 with strong support from the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld in Germany and Hainan Province and Danzhou City, it is the first foreign university to operate independently in the Hainan Free Trade Port and the first German public university to independently run in China. This fall, in addition to its core programs in Computer Science and Digital Technologies, the university has added two new majors—Industrial Engineering and Logistics Engineering—tailored to the development needs of the Hainan Free Trade Port. Looking ahead, BiUH plans to recruit more international students from Southeast Asia and around the world.
