
Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences ((hereinafter referred to as “BiUH”)) hosted an Industry-Academia Cooperation Exchange Forum today at its campus in the Yangpu Economic Development Zone, Danzhou. The event was chaired by Mr. ZENG Weilu, the university’s Vice President, with Vice President Dr. Jari Grosse-Ruyken and Ms. ZHANG Qiao, Head of the University-Business Partnership, in attendance.
The forum brought together representatives from various Danzhou municipal departments, including the Science and Technology Association, the Education Bureau, and the Municipal Party Committee Research Office. They were joined by delegates from more than ten leading local enterprises, such as Sinopec Hainan Refining and Chemical Co., Ltd., SDIC Yangpu Port Co., Ltd., Datang (Danzhou) Ocean Energy Development Co., Ltd., Danzhou Tourism Investment Group, and Hainan Ausca International Grains and Oils Co., Ltd. Discussions centered on talent development and collaborative industry-academia-research initiatives.
In his opening address, Vice President Mr. ZENG Weilu extended a warm welcome to the participants and outlined the university’s founding background and development progress. He highlighted that as the first independent higher education institution in China established by a German public university, BiUH is committed to the German “work-integrated” educational model. “We are dedicated to nurturing high-quality, application-oriented talents with global perspectives, innovative capabilities, and practical skills, thereby providing solid intellectual support for the Hainan Free Trade Port” Vice President Mr. ZENG Weilu stated.
Vice President Dr. Jari Grosse-Ruyken detailed the university’s specific initiatives and achievements in industry-academia collaboration. He explained how BiUH integrates industry needs into its curriculum through programs like student internships and joint research projects, aiming to equip students with readily applicable skills for seamless transition into the workforce. The university has already established stable partnerships with numerous companies across key sectors like energy, logistics, manufacturing, and digital technology.
Government officials, including Ms. ZHENG Ni, Party Group Secretary of the Danzhou Science and Technology Association, and Mr. TAN Mengzhong, Full-time Deputy Party Secretary of the Education Bureau, commended BiUH for its role in advancing the internationalization and practical orientation of local higher education. They pledged ongoing support through favorable policies and resource coordination to facilitate deeper university-enterprise cooperation, fostering industrial upgrading and innovation in Danzhou and across Hainan.
Enterprise representatives expressed strong interest in collaborating on joint talent training, technical research, and the establishment of internship bases. They conveyed their willingness to explore broader cooperation opportunities for mutual benefit and resource sharing.
The forum served to enhance mutual understanding and trust among the academic, governmental, and industrial sectors, laying a solid groundwork for future substantive collaborations. BiUH reaffirmed its commitment to open education and deep industry-academia integration, continually injecting new momentum into the region’s socioeconomic development.
