Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (BiUH) has received official approval from China’s Ministry of Education to launch five new undergraduate programmes: Mechatronics & Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, and Business Administration. This brings the university’s total number of undergraduate programmes to nine, spanning the disciplines of Engineering, Economics, and Management, and marks a further step in perfecting its talent cultivation system.

These five new programmes are aligned with the industrial development needs of the Hainan Free Trade Port, connecting directly with key regional sectors such as intelligent manufacturing, information technology, the digital economy, and modern services. They are also established strengths of the German partner institution, Hochschule Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences ad Arts.

Following the introduction of its Computer Science and Digital Technologies programmes in 2023 and Industrial Engineering and Logistics Engineering programmes in 2025, BiUH has now established a comprehensive matrix of nine undergraduate programmes designed to supply high-quality, application-oriented talent for the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

With the approval of these new programmes, the university will intensify its efforts in faculty development, experimental teaching facilities, and practice-integrated talent cultivation to provide students with a more comprehensive educational experience and broader development prospects.

As the first overseas higher education institution to be independently established in the Hainan Free Trade Port, BiUH was formally approved for establishment in 2023 with the strong support and promotion of China’s Ministry of Education, the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Government, the Hainan Provincial Department of Education, as well as the Danzhou Municipal Party Committee and Government. It stands as one of the landmark projects and early achievements of the Hainan Free Trade Port initiative.
