I am He Yiyang, a Class of 2023 Computer Science and Technology student at Hainan Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. Currently, I am interning in the IT department of Weidmüller, and it has been one month so far.

Initial Internship Experience: Immersed in Weidmüller’s Digital Innovation Atmosphere

Upon entering this outstanding foreign-invested company, I was deeply impressed by its unique work environment—it not only possesses a profound corporate culture but also integrates the spirit of pioneering innovation, professionalism, and responsibility into daily operations. The company places high importance on talent cultivation and technological innovation, allowing even an intern like myself to have a strong sense of involvement. My mentor and colleagues are always patient in answering my questions and provide detailed guidance, helping me quickly integrate into the team and benefit immensely.

Core Task: Contributing to the WDP Digital Platform Development

All my work this month has revolved around the company’s core digital platform, WDP. Essentially, WDP is the company’s OA system, aiming to automate internal office processes through computer and network technology.

The core of my internship is precisely to promote the digitalization of business processes between departments, as well as between the company and its suppliers and distributors. This directly reflects the company’s customer-centric philosophy—by optimizing internal collaboration efficiency, it ultimately provides more reliable service to customers.

My internship tasks are mainly divided into three stages:

1. Learning the WDP Basic Architecture: Gaining an in-depth understanding of the core functions and design logic of each system module.

2. Communicating and Analyzing Business Requirements: Proactively liaising with various business departments to precisely analyze their core needs.

3. Participating in WDP Process Development: Using technical means to transform requirements into concrete digital solutions.

Learning and Growth: The Leap from Theory to Practice

Initially, I felt overwhelmed by the vast system. However, inspired by the dedication and sense of responsibility of my seniors, they started with the basic architecture and meticulously guided me through the operations of each module, enabling me to get up to speed quickly. When dealing with complex requirements, I not only applied database SQL query skills but also combined front-end JavaScript knowledge to optimize the user experience. This process was a true practice of pioneering innovation. Moving from superficial understanding to personally implementing features, I genuinely experienced the significant efficiency improvements digital office solutions bring to enterprises.

Valuable Gains: Honing Communication, Collaboration, and Problem-Solving Skills

Throughout this process, my greatest gains came from communication and practice. I gained a profound understanding of the importance of efficient communication in IT work, which was a completely new experience for me. When gathering requirements, I first proactively learn about the other party’s department, position, and business context to ensure I can accurately break down the core needs—this in itself is an act of professional responsibility. When encountering technical challenges, I maintain a persevering attitude, actively consult materials, and proactively seek advice from seniors to jointly find solutions, ensuring every requirement is solidly implemented.

This internship experience has not only allowed me to acquire practical technical skills but has also given me a firsthand understanding of Weidmüller’s core values, which will guide my future studies and career development.
