The finals of the 2026 Hainan Provincial Situational Drama Competition for Primary, Secondary and Higher Education Institutions (Higher Education Group) recently concluded at Qiongtai Normal University. After rounds of fierce competition, the drama The Tide of Yangpu Bay presented by our university stood out from 31 participating teams across the province, successfully advanced to the finals, and won the Third Prize of the competition.
A total of 31 teams registered for this year’s competition (Higher Education Group), and 20 teams advanced to the finals. Using situational drama as a medium, participating students brought contemporary themes—including the frontline practice of Hainan Free Trade Port construction—onto the stage, acting as both playwrights and performers. On the final stage, the entries covered diverse subjects and delivered brilliant performances, fully demonstrating the youthful vitality and creative passion of college students across Hainan.
Our university’s entry The Tide of Yangpu Bay is set against the background of the island-wide customs closure of the Hainan Free Trade Port, focusing on the story of three generations of port builders along Yangpu Bay—from the first generation of construction workers who shouldered their burdens and built the port on barren land, to the digital upgrade of port operations, and to the young students majoring in port and maritime intelligent logistics who, at a crossroads of opportunity, choose to root themselves on the island. Through cross-generational dialogue, the work weaves together nearly four decades of remarkable transformation at Yangpu Port, vividly conveying the mission and responsibility of the younger generation to aim at the sea and pursue deep-blue dreams. The performance won unanimous acclaim from the judges and the audience.
The play was performed by students including Wang Yaozhen from CS1, Chen Jinhe from CS3, Ye Hanyu from IE1, Chen Yanyan from IE2, Xu Pengyu from SE1, Zhou Zhiyu from BA3, and Zhong Yiyan from CS3 (all Class of 2026). During the preparation period, the students devoted their spare time to refining the script and rehearsing every movement with meticulous care—from lines to body language, from props to teamwork, every detail was polished to perfection. At the final stage, the students delivered a vivid performance with heartfelt emotion and solid acting, authentically recreating the perseverance and legacy of three generations at Yangpu Port, showcasing our students’ rigorous creative attitude and uplifting spirit.
As the first independent overseas university institution established within China, our school has always been rooted in the Hainan Free Trade Port for education and talent development, adhering to the principle of being based in Hainan and serving the construction of the free trade port. This achievement is a vivid embodiment of our students applying what they have learned in the classroom to the practice of Hainan’s development, and a fruitful outcome of our university’s philosophy of educating through culture and aesthetics. Going forward, our university will continue to encourage students to go deeper into the front line of Free Trade Port construction and tell the stories of Hainan on broader stages, demonstrating the responsibility of the younger generation.
